Competition Success for Castlereagh Hills Golf Club

06/09/2016

Castlereagh Hills Golf Club has played host to Dublin based golf club, Grange Castle Golf Club, as part of the annual Inter Club Juvenile Golf Competition.

In its third year, the event aims to encourage young golfers to develop their game with many taking part in competitive match play for the very first time. The event is hosted in alternate venues each year and is open to golfers aged 10 – 18 years.

This year’s competition was eagerly contended with Castlereagh Hills Golf Club securing the victory taking the overall statistics to one win for each club and one draw.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Alderman Stephen Martin said, “I am delighted to welcome Grange Castle Golf Club to Lisburn & Castlereagh to take part in the Inter Club Juvenile Competition. The event is a fantastic forum to promote friendships between two Council run golf clubs and provide a valuable stepping stone to young golfers wishing to gain their first experience of competitive match play. I would like to thank the officials from both clubs for taking the time to organise the competition and look forward to the return leg in Dublin next year.”

Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee, Councillor Tim Morrow said, “With increased levels of obesity in children, sport plays a pivotal role in encouraging children to get active and take their first steps to a lifetime of physical activity. I would like to commend both clubs for their commitment and dedication to their juvenile sections by offering young golfers the opportunity to fulfil their potential in the sport.

Councillor Morrow added, “The interest in golf has increased over recent years with the success of Northern Ireland golfers, therefore I hope these young people are inspired to progress in the sport and represent their club in future competitions. I would like to wish both clubs every success for the remainder of the season and hope their juvenile sections continue to flourish.”
