Coronation Foursomes Tee Off at Castlereagh Hills GC

Fifty-two female golfers from across Northern Ireland have competed in the prestigious R&A Coronation Foursomes Final held at Castlereagh Hills Golf Course. The event took place on Friday 2nd August and was supported by 26 golf clubs.

The Coronation Foursomes was established in 1953 and is the largest ladies golfing event in the UK. The competition is open to all members of affiliated golf clubs in Great Britain and Ireland with a current World Handicap System Index of 40 or under.

The Northern Ireland Final was won by Heather Patterson and Edith Watson from Edenmore Golf Club with a fantastic score of 42 points. Second place was secured by Heather Gracey and Jacqueline Duffy from Temple Golf Club with Josie McGuckin and Kayleigh Mulholland from Moyola Park Golf Club picking up third place.

The Edenmore team will now join the top 16 clubs to qualify for the Grand Final in historic St Andrews in September. Winners of this competition will then have an amazing opportunity to book a place in the Pro-Am for the 2025 AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl.

The winning prize also includes a sought after two-night stay at the prestigious Old Course Hotel Golf Resort and an honorary reception at the R&A World Golf Museum.

Attending the final, Councillor Jonathan Craig, Chair of the Communities and Wellbeing Committee said, “It is a great honour to host the R&A Coronation Foursomes at Castlereagh Hills Golf Course. The event attracts over 17,000 women and girls from almost 1,000 clubs across Great Britain and Ireland, which shows the high esteem the competition holds in the sporting calendar.

Attracting women and girls into golf is vital to grow the game, therefore the R&A is committed to helping female golfers maximise their potential at all levels of the sport. This is a goal which is also supported by the council through its programme of lessons and initiatives.

I would like to congratulate Heather and Edith from Edenmore for winning the heat at Castlereagh Hills Golf Course and wish them well for the big final at St Andrews. I know their achievements will inspire other female golfers setting out in the sport.”

Speaking after their win, the Edenmore team said, “We are absolutely delighted to win the R&A Coronation Foursomes. We thoroughly enjoyed playing at Castlereagh Hills Golf Course and have received such a warm welcome throughout the day. It is an amazing opportunity to now head to St Andrews to play this iconic course and we are looking forward to the occasion.”
